Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a world renowned organisation that continues to grow and prosper whilst maintaining its highly credible reputation. We are looking for Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Engineering to work on specialist complex bespoke systems used in the Aerospace sector across the globe.

Working on a new programme you will work closely with Project and Programme Managers, playing a key role generating design concepts with customer requirements and engineering specification, including international and aerospace standards. You will have opportunity to lead and mentor fellow Mechanical Designers to ensure the quality of work remains best in class within the aerospace arena. It also requires the production of commercially viable product definition information (PDI) including 3D models, detail, and assembly engineering drawings

Duties Will Include

  • Generating engineering drawings from CAD models, ensuring data is fully defined
  • Producing, modifying and updating 3D models, detail and assembly engineering drawings in-line with approved engineering change requests and fully document the changes using engineering change notices.
  • Supporting the Integrated Project Team in defining all engineering work required to gain final acceptance
  • Reading and translating customer performance-based specifications, related documents, EU directives, associated standards into engineering specifications.
  • Conducting trade studies into potential engineering solutions to determine the best, most commercially sound solution within the given parameters whilst optimising manufacturability using 3D CAD.
  • Carrying out all necessary performance and structural calculations via hand calculations and other software tools such as spreadsheets and finite element analysis etc. to support design development.
  • Accurately generates Engineering Drawings using appropriate GD&T in accordance with internal and external standards (such as the Y14 series).
  • Mentoring and leading cutting edge projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Aerospace Engineering
  • Leading projects and ideally people
  • An extensive expertise in design software including 3D CAD modelling
  • Knowledge of finite element techniques using software
  • GD&T to ASME Y14.5 and associated standards
  • Working within a safety critical environment would be highly favourable
