Principal Estimator

Based Preston, with travel throughout the North West as required

We’re looking for a Principal Estimator to join the team and lead on one of our major framework projects here at J. Murphy & Sons Limited.

The role:

  • Be the primary lead on a large-scale programme of works
  • Drive best practice throughout the function and into the wider bid structure
  • Mentor and train junior team members
  • Maintain procedures and systems for the estimating department
  • Produce enquiry schedules for scope of works & packages required from the tender documentation, drawings and specifications issued
  • Identify tender deliverables required
  • Evaluate returned quotations from suppliers and where necessary enter correspondence with suppliers to bring quotations in line with the project specification requirements

Experience:

  • Experienced in the Water industry
  • Exposure to clean and wastewater infrastructure, and water treatments works
  • Chartered status preferable
  • Experienced in managing others, including Estimators
  • Proven successful estimating experience in civil engineering
  • Experienced in bottom up pricing
  • Extensive variety in types of work priced
  • Preference for good knowledge of Candy estimating software
  • Personal drive and tenacity to get the job done, in the right way
