Role Description-
Our Geotechnical team is involved in some of the UK’s most high profile, complex and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding. We have an enviable reputation in the delivery of some of the UK’s and indeed the world’s most prestigious and challenging projects. Our current client portfolio includes Highways England, Transport for London, Local Authorities, the Environment Agency, Canal & Rivers Trust, Water Companies, Network Rail and selected Civil Engineering Contractors for whom we undertake the planning, design and supervision of geotechnical engineering solutions for a variety of schemes including, managed motorways, harbours, ports, water treatment plants, reservoirs, rail electrification, station upgrades and structures in a wide range of geological conditions.

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to join our geotechnical team in London or Birmingham.

Role Accountabilities-
The successful candidate will
  • Be response for standard earthworks details on our major infrastrucutre schemes and through liaison with the design teams, contractor, and subject matter experts on specific components (e.g., instrumentation / dissolution features / geo-environmental / hydrology) develop and update these with respect to geotechnical design of earthworks to be carried out by, and be the responsibility of, the individual design teams.
  • Be responsbile for achieving consistency in the 3D earthworks modelling (Civil 3D sub-assemblies) construction details and material quanitifcations presented in the Schedule of Earthworks Quantities.
  • Will support geotechnical designers to implement the standard earthworks details and Civil 3D sub-assemblies on a case be case basis, ensuring integration across standard details, asset specific drawings and specifications.
  • Will provide integration of design ouput including providing guidance on the format of design deliverables (level of graphical detail on drawings) to meet the project requirements so that the contractor can deliver the design in line with the design intent.
  • Keep abreast of best practices and industry standards in relation to earthworks design and construction
Qualifications & Experience-

  • plan and manage tasks to time, budget and quality.
  • can communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels, across the project organisation
  • will have extensive experience in the design and implementation of earthworks for civil engineering projects
  • has experience of design and build contracts and assimilation of design and construction imperatives
  • will have a working knowledge of SHW standard details
  • should be fully familiar with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc. as well as document management and data management systems (Sharepoint / ProjectWise / BIMXTRA or similar).
