Are you a bright-minded, innovations focused Principal Engineer (Product Development) who is looking for an interesting opportunity to develop your very own novel, high-tech aerospace technology? The key responsibilities of the Principal Engineer (Product Development) will be as follows;

Develop your own new, novel product concepts from lower TRL (Technology Readiness Levels) from concept to prototype, test and manufacturing readiness (TRL1-5)

Work with external catapult centres and higher academic institutes to help in conceptualising new product innovations

Detailed design of the product to specification meeting the performance, reliability, and cost requirements.

As Principal Product Engineer(Product Development) youll provide technical support to the customer, project team, suppliers and other agencies i.e. CAA, EASA etc.

Create and deliver technical presentations on your new innovations to the wider engineering teams, customer, and suppliers.

To collaborate with the New Technology team and keep abreast of current technologies.

Generate the product specifications, if required.

Participate in both internal and external design reviews.

Responsible for validation and verification of the new designs e.g. testing, test sequence, similarity/analysis reports, defining number of units required and supporting build of prototype/development units.

Responsible for documenting the design information in terms of drawings, parts, material specifications, bills of materials and design file (logbook) etc.

Support the Win New Business process.

Responsible for the configuration control of the part liaising with the project manager.

The experience required for the Principal Engineer (Product Development) role is as follows:
  • PhD, or Degree qualified or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge conceptual product development (TRL knowledge will be an advantage)
  • R&D and product development experience within a safety critical environment (aerospace experience an advantage)
  • Familiarity with 2D and 3D design packages to develop product concepts
  • Knowledge of materials selection or metallurgical studies (piezo-electric experience a significant advantage)
  • Ability to act as the Design Authority if required
  • Ability to interact with industry subject matter experts on product development
  • Excellent communication skills
