We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal EIA Consultant to join our Impact Assessment (IA) team in Southern England (office options include Croydon, St Albans, Basingstoke, Exeter and Plymouth).

You’ll have the opportunity to work on large-scale projects that are transforming our built environment and infrastructure as you manage and deliver environmental inputs to a wide range of schemes, including commercial and residential, power, ports, airports, water, rail and road.

You’ll provide environmental inputs across all project lifecycles, from early strategy development through feasibility, optioneering / option selection, and outline design, to detailed design, discharging of consents, construction and scheme operation / maintenance.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about delivering effective environmental inputs and positively influencing the environmental performance of development projects. You must be able to demonstrate experience in the following: managing multidisciplinary environmental inputs to complex and large scale projects; working closely with design engineers to intercept and mitigate potential environmental effects; engaging and consulting across a wide range of audiences; and effectively managing resources and budgets.

The successful candidate will be supported by our Environment & Sustainability (E&S) business unit which has more than 650 staff based across the UK.

You will provide support and input to our growing portfolio of high-profile development projects, including:

+ Commercial & Residential including large-scale phased developments and tall buildings

+ Renewable Energy projects including solar, wind and hydrogen

+ Water projects for Thames Water and Affinity Water

+ Power transmission projects for National Grid

+ Road projects for Highways England

Your role will include:
+ Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs across a range of projects, with a focus on the management of EIAs in support of gaining development consent

+ You will manage and oversee the preparation of EIA screening and scoping reports and Environmental Statements, including the technical review of specialist chapters

+ Liaising with clients and internal supply teams, including working collaboratively with design teams to ensure environmental considerations are taken into account

+ Working in partnership with other members of the IA team, managing resources, delegating activities, monitoring and managing project budgets

+ Leading with the identification of new business opportunities and associated fee and technical proposal developments which will include promoting AECOM’s services to internal and external audiences.

+ Manage and mentor more junior members of the team.

Minimum Requirements

+ Experience and passion for developing sustainable solutions to environmental problems

+ Excellent understanding of the EIA processes (including screening and scoping), environmental assessment methods and applicable planning legislation

+ Experience commensurate with specified job responsibilities

+ Confident engaging with a wide variety of stakeholder groups

+ Ability to lead and work collaboratively as part of an established team, supervising members of staff as applicable

+ Excellent verbal and report writing skills, including technical reviewing – all with attention to detail

+ Excellent project management skills, including experience of programming, staff resource management, and effective budget management

+ Full driving licence and willingness to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Degree in a relevant environmental discipline

+ Appropriate professional membership

+ Experience of the TCPA and / or DCO
