Your Main Responsibilities May IncludeAs a primary supply teacher, your role is to step in and cover the teaching responsibilities for regular classroom teachers when they are absent or unavailable. Supply teachers are also known as substitute teachers or relief teachers in some regions.
  • Classroom management: Maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment to ensure effective teaching and learning can take place.
  • Lesson delivery: Deliver lessons and follow the lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, ensuring continuity in the students’ education.
  • Student engagement: Encourage student participation and engagement in the learning process, fostering a conducive learning atmosphere.
  • Support students: Offer academic support and answer questions to the best of your ability, helping students understand and complete their tasks.
  • Behavior management: Manage student behavior and implement appropriate discipline measures, as needed, to maintain a respectful and focused learning environment.
  • Safety and well-being: Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times, following school policies and procedures.
  • Communication: Interact with school staff, administrators, and parents to update them on the day’s activities and address any concerns that may arise.
  • Adaptability: Be flexible and adaptive to different teaching styles, classroom setups, and student needs as you may be teaching various subjects and grade levels.
  • Classroom setup: Familiarize yourself with the classroom resources and materials to facilitate a smooth teaching experience.
  • Feedback: Provide feedback to the regular teacher regarding the day’s activities, student progress, and any issues that occurred during your time in the classroom.
It’s essential to arrive prepared and punctual, as supply teaching often requires you to be ready to step into an unfamiliar classroom at short notice. Effective communication and classroom management skills, along with a passion for education and working with children, are vital attributes for a successful primary supply teacher.All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
