Salary: from £24,390.78 to £25,911.17 depending on experience

Site: Nelson & Colne College but travel will be required


Nelson and Colne College Group is made up of a family of colleges – Nelson and Colne College, Lancashire Adult Learning and Accrington and Rossendale College. Together the Group forms a Sixth Form, Skills and Technology Centre, University Centre, employer training and adult learning provider.


Leading education organisation is looking for an exceptional content writer to manage the PR and Communication strategy for College Group. We are an ambitious organisation whose brand purpose is to ‘Create the Extraordinary’. As our communications expert you will lead the College Group’s PR and communications, sharing our ‘extraordinary’ story and helping to shape the Group’s voice.


You will be an outstanding communicator with excellent copywriting skills and a successful track record in developing engaging content across a wide range of platforms. You will strive to raise the profile of the College Group and proactively generate positive and engaging media coverage across print, broadcast, digital and social channels.


You will celebrate our learners by sharing their inspiring stories, recognising them through local national award entries and demonstrating the impact of the group and our phenomenal staff. You will need to be experienced and confident writer who is as comfortable developing content for social media and writing copy for a press release as they are contributing to strategic discussions and developing campaigns.


You will be a brand champion, passionate about the impact learning has on people’s lives and be driven to explore the inspiring stories at the heart of our organisation. You will be an independent and creative thinker who enjoys working on their own initiative, as well as part of a team. You must enjoy rolling your sleeves up and getting stuck in!


You should apply if:

  • You are passionate about finding and sharing the stories at the heart of a brand
  • Have a proven track record of developing creative content across a range of channels to include online and offline media
  • Significant writing experience
  • Experience of managing video projects and dealing with broadcast opportunities
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Are you an independent thinker who enjoys working in a team?
  • Strong media contacts and experience of pitching stories to the media
  • Ability to build relationships quickly
  • An ability to work without supervision
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft software packages, WordPress (highly desirable), and social media platforms
  • Experience of working in education is preferable
