Rugby Locality

Full time, permanent role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit to the RUGBY Primary Care Network (a designated hub of surgeries).

This new and exciting development recognises that placing specialist mental health staff in GP practices and promoting early assessment and treatment in a recovery focused way will help people with mental health problems achieve the best outcomes.

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust are looking to recruit and employ Band 6 Mental Health Practitioners with a relevant qualification (RMN/AHP/SW) who will be based within the Rugby Primary care setting.

The practitioner will offer primary care mental health liaison support to GP surgeries within the Rugby Primary care network and will have the opportunity to support the development and implementation of this new collaborative service.

Part of the role will be directly involved in assessing patients referred from primary care (this will include adults of working age and older adults and children), followed by identifying and facilitating appropriate support/treatment for them. For most people, this will mean remaining within primary care – supported either by the Primary Care Liaison for brief psychological interventions; support from social prescribers; or talking therapies vias IAPT. For those with more complex needs, it will involve facilitating a smooth transfer into Coventry and Warwickshire’s secondary care mental health services.

The post holder will be involved in ensuring that patients in primary care have their mental health needs more clearly assessed, defined, cared for and treated by primary care health care professionals, and that the pathways to best meet someone’s mental health needs are optimised.

The post holder will be working closely with primary care and voluntary sector colleagues.

The Community Mental Health Framework for adults and older adults (National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health, 2019) signals a fundamental change in approach towards the way primary and secondary care service should work together to meet the needs of patients struggling with mental health problems. These new roles demonstrate emerging partnerships in our primary care networks and applicants will be key professionals advancing patient care in the community.

Please note Trust interviews are currently taking place through Microsoft Teams, this can be downloaded either through the App Store or Google Play for use on your phone/tablet.
