We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our Payroll team based in Brackley, on a permanent basis.

Purpose & Scope

As a member of the Payroll Team, to provide an excellent, customer focussed payroll function in support of the strategic objectives of the shared service department to deliver key performance indicators as per the service level agreement with the participatory sites. We currently pay 6,000 employees across a mixture of monthly and weekly paid cycles.

Operating Environment

This role is office based with working hours Monday to Friday 08:30-17:00, 37.5 hours per week.

Duties

Main Accountabilities and Duties

  • Ensure that all employee salaries, wages, allowances and deductions are accurately processed
  • Processing of new starters, leavers and changes to pay each pay period
  • Understand and calculate statutory payments, SSP, SPP, SMP, ShPP
  • Maintain excellent relationships with 3rd party service providers
  • Monitor and assess expense claims for legitimacy and accuracy, reject claims where necessary and keep a record of those rejected
  • Liaise with pension providers with regard to employee pension entitlements
  • Respond professionally and with discretion to direct payroll queries, providing help and support, taking ownership of the issue where necessary. Liaise with colleagues in the HR shared service and site HR teams to promptly resolve queries with regards to employee pay.
  • Undertake any other responsible duties, including help and cover, considered by the Trainee Payroll Manager to be within the scope of the post.
  • Maintain and update existing processes and procedures where required.

  • Ensure biosecurity processes and procedures are adhered to (where appropriate) to protect birds from disease and maintain food safety.
  • Ensure that the training and, development needs of any subordinate staff are identified and addressed, and contribute generally to the development of an overall learning culture within the company.
  • Ensure that delivery of agreed SLA standards is maintained where appropriate.
  • Participate as necessary in appropriate shifts and on-call duty rotas, if applicable.
  • Other duties within the general scope of the post may be required from time to time.
  • The duties of the post and job description will be regularly reviewed by the line manager.

Person Specification

Knowledge And Experience (Essential Or Desirable)

  • Previous experience as a payroll administrator
  • Ability to deal with confidential information in line with current legislation and have a basic knowledge of payroll, tax, pension and employment law
  • Good verbal and numerical skill
  • Strong communication skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate continuous professional development and to contribute to continuous service improvement
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise conflicting tasks for self and team in order to meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
  • Basic level of Microsoft Excel and Word knowledge (essential).

Skills, Abilities And Attitude

  • Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities where appropriate to deliver an effective and efficient payroll service whilst also supporting the wider People Services department.
  • A self-motivate individual with open approach to personal and professional development.
  • Able to work independently and within the team to meet statutory and internal deadlines, following instructions, procedures consistently and accurately through excellent organisation and prioritisation of own workload.
