As a Pastoral Support Worker within a Pupil Referral Unit for KS3 students, your duties will include supervising the pupils throughout the school day, to encourage the pupils to engage with their education, build rapport with the pupils, be a positive role model as well as help the pupils to understand why their education is important. On a daily basis, you will need to build trusting relationships with the pupils to provide emotional guidance and apply coping mechanisms. It is important you help create a safe environment where the students can understand how to express themselves in a positive manner. You need to ensure clear and respectable boundaries are set. On occasion you will need to be able to positively support challenging behaviours.The school is based in the Wandsworth area - their main goal is to alter the negative mindset the pupils may currently hold towards education. It is important you support the school with their aspirations and help re-engage the youth in education. The Senior Leadership Team are looking for applicants who are; patient, have a caring disposition, encourage pupils to engage in every activity, are able to reinforce positive behaviour and decisions.The school have mentioned that applicants with previous experience supporting children who display challenging behaviours is desirable.
