Exclusive to Trial Balance Consulting

Part Time Charity Finance Manager - Bodmin - £24-26,000 FTE

***Please note that in accordance with part 1 (schedule 9) of The Equality Act 2010 we are only able to consider female applicants for this opportunity***

There’s a lot to consider when moving on to a new job opportunity. The responsibilities of a new role need to suit, the remuneration needs to be attractive, and the future prospects need to be bright. But perhaps one of the most important and often overlooked factors to consider is the employer and the nature of their operation. If working with a highly ethical organisation that genuinely changes & improves people’s lives means as much to you as the job that you’re paid to do, this will undoubtedly be an opportunity that will be of interest. The position works with an organisation that offers support to affected members of the Devon community (and beyond), through specialist mentoring, counselling and general support.

Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to have been exclusively engaged to assist a highly regarded Exeter based charity in their search for a part time Finance Manager. The position is offered on a permanent, part time basis of 22.5 hours (3 days), which can be flexibly worked as per the preference of the successful candidate. With agreement this role can be split between the charity HQ and worked remotely.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role holds pivotal responsibility within the charity. The Finance Manager will lead the day-to-day financial controls and financial reporting to the board of trustees and senior management team. It’s a broad ranging opportunity that blends transactional, commercial and strategic development of the charity. Key responsibilities to include:

  • Preparation of annual accounts to Trial Balance
  • Lead month end procedures to include bank reconciliation, prepayments, accruals, sales/purchase ledger and payroll
  • Cashflow management
  • Produce monthly management accounts with running commentary
  • Forecasting and project costings
  • Statutory submissions to Companies House and the Charity Commission
  • Annual budgeting
  • Support gift aid claims

What we’re looking for: We’re looking for an experienced female accountant who possesses at least two years of recent exposure in a similar position. Previous experience of charity accounting and partial VAT exemption would be desirable though not essential assuming an aptitude to learn new skills and procedures. Experience of using cloud-based accounting platforms, would also be highly desirable and a good knowledge of MS Excel essential. Given the nature of the organisation, a strong culture fit will be key criteria. The charity is led by a typically passionate, energetic team with a very pro-active attitude to their work. The role wouldn’t be suited to somebody who is looking for “any old job”!
