About the Firm:
With 8 offices worldwide and with our headquarters based in London, Stephenson Harwood is a law firm where our people are committed to achieving the goals of our clients - listed and private companies, institutions and individuals across the globe. Our mix of expertise and culture results in a combination of deep local insight and the capability to provide a seamless international service.

Our experience encompasses corporate, commercial litigation and arbitration, employment, pensions and private wealth, finance, marine and international trade, and real estate and projects.

We assemble teams of bright thinkers to match our clients’ needs and give the right advice from the right person at the right time. Dedicating the highest calibre of legal talent to overcome the most complex issues, we deliver pragmatic, expert advice that is set squarely in the real world.

We understand the power of diversity in delivering that high calibre advice to our clients. We want to attract diverse talent and we particularly encourage applications from underrepresented demographics.
Team Structure:
Our employment, pensions, incentives and immigration group is a multidisciplinary team, able to advise on both litigation and advisory matters. For over 30 years we have provided a "full service" legal and support function to our clients. The team has received multiple industry awards and is consistently ranked highly in legal directories.
Main Responsibilities:

After induction with Stephenson Harwood, you would work on secondment at one of the firm’s largest and most valued clients for an anticipated period of 3-6 months, providing support to their internal legal team. You will continue to work closely with Stephenson Harwood personnel but otherwise work for and with lawyers in the client’s in-house legal function. The client is part of a multinational group, with a London Office near Tower Bridge. The client is a leader in the health and benefits industry worldwide. You would be expected to work on site at their London office when required, and to function as part of their team, which is a friendly and sophisticated legal team. It is anticipated that you would provide support on contractual and commercial matters, including data protection issues. That work is anticipated to be principally advisory and will usually involve a significant amount of responsibility. The right candidate would be expected to demonstrate strong academic, personal and organisational skills, with a willingness to act on various matters at the same time.

When not on secondment, and after the secondment period comes to an end, you may continue working as a paralegal within Stephenson Harwood, supporting the EPP team and offering support as needed (which may also include providing support to other departments in the firm if required). These responsibilities include:

  • Drafting document checklists
  • Performing legal and factual research tasks
  • Preparing correspondence, reports and basic notes of advice
  • Carrying out bundling and drafting as and when needed
  • Case management – including organisation and tracking case files
Attributes/Skills Required:
  • Candidates must have strong academics and have completed a law degree or GDL and LPC (ideally a 2:1 and more than a pass for LPC or GDL)
  • Excellent drafting, presentation and communication skills
  • Previous paralegal experience, ideally inhouse, is preferred
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Word and Excel) and doc review platforms
  • Organised, with good time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines, including putting in additional hours where necessary
  • Team player and personable manner. Proactive and resilient
