Role Description: The Ophthalmology team is looking for two enthusiastic candidates to join the Orthoptist team. One role is full time and the other role is part time. The successful candidate will work closely with the Ophthalmology and Orthoptist team to provide and manage an efficient and effective service.

You will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the full range of patients presenting to the Orthoptic Department, including developing and implementing a care plan for each patient. Further development into a specific role can be discussed at interview depending on experience and interest.

  • Provides specialist education to other staff and students ensuring, developing and maintaining basic specialist knowledge and skills in the wider clinical teams to ensure continuity of high-quality care in the absence of the specialist teams.
  • Leads clinical audits in clinical area and may undertake research and development.
  • Involvement in the productivity and financial management of a clinical area
  • Leading by example.
  • Ensuring clinical services are delivered to a high quality of care and that all compliance requirements such as CQC and contractual requirements are achieved.
  • Effective leadership.
Who we are:The Ophthalmology Department works across all three of our hospital sites, with dedicated Ophthalmic areas at both main hospital sites, dedicated Ophthalmic Imaging support, as well as community eye services that support glaucoma referral refinement and Minor Eye Conditions (MECs) being dealt with closer to home. Each of our existing consultants has a strong general Ophthalmology background with sub-specialty interests in medical retina, glaucoma, uveitis, anterior segment, oculoplastics, and paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. The successful candidate would be joining a strong team of orthoptists working closely with the consultant team to deliver high quality patient care.
