A fantastic opportunity has arisen within the Learning and Skills Service for an experienced, engaging and motivated person to join our team as a Driver Trainer.

This is a specialist role that involves the planning and delivery of learning to the Cumbria County Council workforce, ensuring they have the correct behaviours and are well skilled and competent to carry out their roles within the Council.

The Role

As a Fixed Term Contract Driver Trainer, you will be part of the driver training team supporting colleagues in a One Team approach to delivery. You will be required to identify and develop learning solutions for the needs of the workforce, closely collaborating with your line manager, and also liaising with stakeholders to find the best approach.


The approach we take as a team is to understand and adapt the learning to meet individual or group requirements, utilising a wide range of teaching methods and equipment.

We offer a wide range of driver awareness and development programmes including essential emergency response driving to fire personnel. Specialist training may be given if required but is an advantage should you be already qualified.

Who we are looking for:

The ideal candidate for this role will be driven, flexible and have a good understanding of vehicle working principles, maintenance and driver training practice. A knowledge of other services provided by the council ensuring our service continues to excel in these areas. The role will involve displaying good organisational skills, and the ability to identify and adapt the learning delivery, making it relevant to the individual or group.

  • Minimal role requirements are LGV category ‘C’ driving licence for a minimum of 2 years,
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or NVQ 3 or 4, or NQF Level 4 or 5, or equivalent
  • A specific service qualification (i.e.ADI, etc).
  • An understanding of general organisational procedures, regulations and legislation regarding driver training is essential.
  • Emergency Response Driver Training Qualified
