Band 6 Nutrition Nurse Specialist - Permanent

Full time – 37.5 hours/week

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Nutrition Nurse Specialist in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

Along with the Band 7 Lead Nutrition Nurse you will work as a member of the Nutrition Team comprising Consultants, Registrars, Dietitians, Nurses and Pharmacist to provide nursing support for patients receiving parenteral nutrition, enteral feeding and those with complex nutritional needs. Based in the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, you will be a key team member to provide clinical care and to support the improvement of nutritional practice across the Trust.

You will need to have considerable and varied post registration experience which includes nursing in a range of acute clinical settings, along with a good knowledge and up to date experience of caring for patients on parenteral nutrition, enteral feeding and those with gastrointestinal problems. A strong interest and enthusiasm towards nutrition is essential, together with excellent communication and multidisciplinary team working skills. As you will frequently be working as an autonomous practitioner, being able to work independently and having evidence of critical thinking and evaluation skills will be essential. Training and support will be available.

Within the acute based Dietetic team, you will join a friendly and supportive team of 24 Dietitians (20.62wte), an Oncology Dietetic Assistant Practitioner (0.91wte), 3 Dietetic Assistants (2.4wte), 2 Nutrition Nurses (1.8wte) and 2 administrative staff (1.8wte).

Although predominantly we operate a Monday to Friday service, we work flexibly to deliver clinical cover and provide a Bank Holiday/occasional weekend service.
