Position Title:New Product Development Scientist

Position Summary:In this role you will be based in Momentive’s Abingdon Laboratory in Oxfordshire, UK, and will report directly to the Platform Technology Manager. You will play an active role in the design, development and scale-up of New Product Innovations (NPI’s) based on Momentive’s specialty silicone compound and emulsion technologies across all business segments. This position is multi-faceted and will involve working across many different technical disciplines and also close collaboration with the Operations Department during scale-up of new products/process optimization.

Job Description:Your responsibilities
  • Assist with the design and development of prototype emulsions and formulations as directed by the Technology group
  • Carry out application performance testing and customer support studies to allow benchmarking of NPI’s and customer samples against current products
  • Assist with scale-up work and new product development programmes
  • Support Technical and Production departments by optimizing and streamlining the product portfolio
  • Carry out stability testing of NPI and newly scaled-up products to ensure product quality
  • Ensure all work is in compliance with the Quality Management systems
  • Maintain accurate records of all work in, lab books, Development and Technical Databases
  • Prepare and organise laboratory research and field trial data for the generation of internal reports, external communications, technical datasheets and intellectual property
  • Provide technical support to customers, particularly with respect to problem solving and product recommendations
Your qualificationBasic qualifications:
  • Degree in Chemistry or Polymer Science (BSc)
  • Strong foundation of basic principles of polymer chemistry
  • Ability to demonstrate practical laboratory skills
  • Conscientious and meticulous work ethic
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong team player
  • Highly motivated
Preferred qualifications:
  • At least 2 years work experience
  • Experience of wet/practical chemistry i. e. titrations and laboratory preparations
  • Initial experience of working in an industrial laboratory environment
  • First experience of working on product development
  • Some experience of working in an R&D environment
