Position Title:Laboratory Manager

Position Summary:In this role you will play an important part in coordinating the development and scale-up of New Product Innovations (NPI’s) based on Momentive’s specialty silicone compound and emulsion technologies. This position is multi-faceted and will involve working across many different technical disciplines including New Product Development, Process Development and Optimisation as well as Production Support. The successful candidate must be able to work to tight deadlines in a busy and rapidly changing environment and be able to work individually and as a member of a multi-functional team as determined by project requirements.

Job Description:Your responsibilities
  • Ensure the smooth day to day running of the Process Technology and R&D sections of the Technical Team by coordinating the work of a small group of chemists and technologists
  • Support the growth of the business by enhancing the value of MPM’s product portfolio through execution of technology transfer projects
  • Coordinate resources to assist with the development of NPI prototype formulations/products and optimise existing product range
  • Acquire an excellent understanding of production capabilities and Process Technologies to allow new product development to be carried out effectively
  • Coordinate the Scale up of products from the laboratory to pilot and full production scale
  • Utilize Technical Resources to support production support programs and maintain high first time pass rates levels
  • Ensure Rework, Aged stock and Tailing inventories are monitored & consumed as part of the company continuous waste minimization programs
  • Ensure all documentation associated with internal (QA and Development programmes) and external compliance is maintained
  • Management of the Abingdon Technical department in the absence of the Technical Leader
Your qualificationBasic qualifications:
  • Degree in Chemistry or Polymer Science (First Class Honours or Upper Second Class Honours)
  • Experience in product scale-up and fundamental knowledge of Process Technology
  • Familiarity with emulsion technology / processing
  • At least 5 years’ experience in leading and motivating a dynamic, proactive team
  • Willingness to practically support different departments; strong hands-on mentality
  • Proficiency in communicating to leadership team, peers, direct reports and external customers (written and verbal)
Preferred qualifications:
  • Post Graduate degree in Chemistry or Polymer Science (alternatively BSc with 10 years’ operational experience)
  • Experience with polymers, emulsions or coating technologies
  • Familiarity with emulsion technology / processing
  • Hands on experience in developing prototype products / formulations
  • Track record of success in innovation and new product design
  • Experience working directly with customers on technical projects or quality concerns
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to contribute to new product development projects
  • Strong team ethics and appreciation of NPI project life cycles
