The Role

Due to rapid growth within Wessex Internet, a new opportunity has arisen within our Planning Team. The Network Planner role is key to ensuring that the network designs are in alignment with the companies planning and design policies and you will own the planning cycle from end to end.


Reporting into our Head of Planning, you will work within our Planning Team who are primarily responsible for the development of network build method, design mapping and cost reviews to distinguish the most cost and time effective method of build.


If you have previously worked in a fibre planning position or have a university degree or equivalent in Surveying, Geography or Geology we would love to hear from you.


Responsibilities

  • Keeping our project tracking database updated with all relevant information.
  • Creating network maps using a combination of GIS mapping software (Vetro), Google Earth and QGIS.
  • Aid the Construction Team in organising and accurately documenting planned fibre construction and help with the planning and mapping of future fibre community schemes.
  • Generating network expansion projects showing possible build methods and routes.
  • Provide the interface of information into PIA requirements and rural Land access phases.
  • Produce adhoc secondary build options to support the PMO function to achieve the works in a timely manner.
  • Dissect projects into phases and document the phase requirements in a templated model to present to the project board for approval.

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent in Surveying, Geography, Geology or similar.
  • Detailed knowledge of XGSPON and point to point fibre network architecture.
  • Experience of using CAD or GIS software.
  • Any experience of Telecoms FTTP (Fibre to the Premise) Planning and Design.
  • A detailed understanding of both Urban and Rural build methods.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise across a range of processes, dealing with rapidly evolving priorities effectively.
  • Quick to pick up new systems and processes.
