Job Description To support Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s strategic decarbonisation aims throughout the Outer Hebrides and finding solutions to the non-technical barriers surrounding this, through research and development of innovative approaches and partnership working with key sectoral stakeholders. This is a 2 year fixed term post is fully funded through Innovate UK Net Zero Living - Fast Followers and will require mandatory participation in online training modules to support development and application of Net Zero plans. Requirements Knowledge: Understanding of local energy generation and use, including grid and distribution network. Knowledge of Climate change issues and the effects impacting the Outer Hebrides. Knowledge of the issues affecting widespread uptake of net zero initiatives. Awareness of the key economic and community issues impacting communities in the Outer Hebrides. Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds. Proven written communication and report-writing ability to provide advice/ solutions and aftercare. Strong oral communication skills including the ability to present information verbally to engage a range of audiences, especially those experiencing barriers to adoption of net zero. Excellent organisational/ time-management skills to deal effectively with a diverse workload - meeting targets and deadlines, organising events, publicity and evaluation. Proven ability to multi-task and work effectively on a diverse range of projects. Ability to work flexibly on own initiative, as part of a team with colleagues, partners and the public, and to motivate others. Competent in Microsoft Office applications and IT packages. Education/ Experience: Educated to Degree Level or equivalent AND/ OR at least three years practical experience of operating in a Sustainable Development environment. Experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders including the public, businesses, communities and agency partners. Experience of carrying out research or handling data, including the ability to analyse data and draft reports. Other Factors: A welcoming attitude, and the ability to relate to and engage with a wide variety of people and partners from varying backgrounds and sectors. Willingness to undertake training and development as required by the nature of the post. Commitment to working flexibly and out with normal office hours if required. Willingness to travel locally or nationally, should the duties of the post require it. Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of grade with annual incremental progression.
