Microbiology Research Scientist

1-year fixed term contract

SRG are currently working closely with a unique biotechnology company in Cambridge who focus on developing novel antibiotics and antimicrobials for the treatment of bacterial infections, in order to address the serious issue of increased antibiotic resistance.

They are currently looking to recruit a Microbiology Research Scientist to join their research team. The successful candidate will have a degree in microbiology, biotechnology, or a related biological discipline, or relevant microbiology experience.

Key responsibilities of the Microbiology Research Scientist:

  • Preparation, storage and management (including QC checks) of bacterial and viral stocks.
  • Host range screening of bacteriophage and time-kill exposure experiments.
  • Adherence to documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, ensuring that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded accurately, that samples are handled correctly, and that all necessary data are maintained.
  • Daily maintenance of laboratory book, provision of written reports, and presentation of laboratory activities and data at company meetings.
  • Demonstration of the ability to work both as a key member of a small team, as well as independently.

To be considered for the role of Microbiology Research Scientist you will have:

  • BSc / MSc in microbiology, biotechnology, or related biological discipline, or relevant industrial microbiology experience.
  • Experience working with bacteriophage or developing novel antimicrobial therapeutics would be highly desirable.
  • Experience working in a category 2 laboratory would be beneficial
  • Desire to work in a friendly and research focused environment.
