Job Title: Clerk of Works-MEP

Location: Blyth

Reports to: Quality Manager

Job Purpose

ISG have recently secured a £500m new build Battery Gigaplant project in Blyth, and this role will oversee delivery of the construction project works in accordance with the Clients’ requirements.

KeyResponsibilities
  • Takes a proactive approach to planning for quality. Conducts upfront pre-delivery inspections & supports in the vetting of the supply chain.
  • Must have a good knowledge of the specific building type in hand and the design standards that apply to this. The appointed person must be vigilant in their inspections of a large range of technical aspects of the work and must have a thorough knowledge of CDM and related construction H&S legislation.
  • Will be expected to inspect civil / structural and MEP installations.
  • Works with and the engineering teams to develop solutions to quality issues. Working with members of the delivery teams to ensure that customer requirements are addressed by the management systems or project specific procedures.
  • Ensure that the business remains compliant with the current legislation and that processes and procedures are updated to ensure compliance.
  • Carry out inspections and to ensure compliance to customer requirements.
  • Attend forums, meetings etc to ensure that best practice is shared across all ISG companies where practical.
  • Conducts regular on-site inspections, reports on the best practices and promotes the right first time mentality.
  • Liaise with the Contractor’s supervisory personnel to ensure a full, current and accurate understanding of the delivery programme, and construction method/activities in progress.
  • Agree joint quality control procedures with the constructor/contractor in accordance with Client’s Requirements and audit such procedures and records to ensure that quality control inspections are effective and efficient
  • Identify work to be done and, subject to the prior approval of the Contract Administrator/ Client’s Agent, issue site directions to the Contractor.
  • Undertake a trouble-shooting role, in consultation with the Client’s Agent regarding defects and the organisation and direction of remedial works
  • Carry out duties to meet Health and Safety regulations, including CDM regulations on site and to monitor and instruct contractors/constructors on HS&E Practices
  • Continuously monitor work on site in accordance with the Contractors Method Statements and the Construction Health and Safety Plan, and endeavour to ensure the safety of all persons affected by the works. Promptly report breaches to contractors and consultants in written form


Experience & Skills
  • Experienced manager able to direct a team, and others that do not report directly.
  • Experienced managing of quality on major civils, superstructure and envelope projects, with package values upwards of £50m
  • Experience and understanding of quality issues within construction.
  • The individual must additionally be sufficiently experienced to understand, identify and execute the required testing of the works.
  • Have a good knowledge of construction processes and standards.
  • Must be able to evaluate information to assess compliance with requirements and identify improvement opportunities. This should include the ability to analysis data to identify trends.
  • Fully proficient IT skills, inclusive of AutoCAD software and the Microsoft suite of office programme inclusive of teams and remote working abilities, BIM 365 & SharePoint.
  • Organisational skills and workload prioritising.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • A commitment to identify, develop, direct and implement key objectives
  • Able to deal with staff, clients and external customers.
  • CSCS card
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations
