Job Description

Mechanical Technician

A large scientific facility involved in leading edge research ,requires additional Mechanical Technicians for the continued development of specialist equipment and instrumentation.

The organisations scientists use the facility to study a vast range of subject matter, from new medicines and treatments for disease to innovative engineering and cutting-edge technology.

This is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world, and its pioneering capabilities and talented staff are helping to keep the UK at the forefront of scientific research.

About the Role

The work involves high precision assembly techniques with robust structures and precision motion, not unlike large machine tools.

The Technicians will contribute to the assembly, installation and maintenance of devices and will assist with the testing and commissioning.

Further responsibilities will include:

  • Making simple jigs/fixtures and tooling to facilitate assembly work
  • Producing simple manufacturing sketches
  • Providing first line diagnosis of electromechanical faults that arise in the operation of the devices
  • Maintaining appropriate documentation for assembly and maintenance
  • Carrying out inspection and acceptance testing of components and subsystems.

About You

You will be an experienced technician with strong mechanical skills from an engineering workshop environment.

You will demonstrate experience of carrying out a variety of light mechanical and electrical assembly tasks, including interpreting mechanical drawings, along with technical experience in one or more of: cryogenics, magnetic fields, ultra high vacuum.

You will demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, to interact with people at all levels.
