Equans is looking for aMechanical Supervisorto join our team atRoyal Infirmary of Edinburgh Hospitalon a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.


Reporting to the Mechanical Manager, the Mechanical Supervisor is part of a larger site-based team. The main responsibilities include the daily organisation of the maintenance teams, including specialist subcontractors to ensure the safe and continuous operation of the hospital. The Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for coordinating site operations in compliance with company contract, and local operating procedures to ensure a standardised approach to the Equans service delivery.

The objective of the department is to operate and maintain an optimum environment in which healthcare can be delivered to the patient. The main elements being Ventilation, Water, Plumbing, Mechanical Services, Electrical Services, piped medical gases, Steam etc.

The Mechanical Supervisors lead, direct and motivate the site Mechanical Services team to maximise their potential and contribution to best practice service delivery.

This is a critical role, supervising an important concession, providing critical services within a Healthcare environment.

The Mechanical Supervisor will be able to work in accordance with the requirements of Health Technical Memoranda (HTM’s); Medical Gases HTM 2022 and Water Supplies HTM 2027, TM 2040 and (Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) L8), Ventilation Plant HTM 2025 and any other relevant statutory compliance requirements (Pressure Systems Regulations 2000).

What will you deliver?

  • Ensure all activities within the Technical Services team meet and exceed the contracted service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Establish and maintain effective business relationships with all key stakeholders, customers, partners, contractors and other third parties to deliver best practice service.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements in relation to safe working practices and safe operation of plant, equipment and services and all activities essential to meet all relevant Health Technical Memoranda (HTM and SHTM) and Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Review and implement the site’s Health & Safety (H&S) Plan and associated Risk Assessments, alongside the SHEQ team, ensuring that obligations for H&S and any statutory requirements associated to the delivery of the contract are appropriately and fully applied.
  • Price small works.
  • Deliver in house Toolbox Talks.
  • Attend as required Health & Safety forums with staff and as required other stakeholders on the site.
  • Assist in the contribution to ensure that plant and equipment data and information is delivered in an accurate and timely manner to enable Lifecycle Planning to be developed.
  • Assist the M&E SM in ensuring that all staff and subcontractors’ response and rectification times are met, and repairs are undertaken diligently, with due care and without undue delay.

Who are we looking for?

  • NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Discipline is essential.
  • Experience in HVAC systems or comparable training and a working knowledge of these systems would be advantageous.
  • Demonstratable experience in a previous supervisor position would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience within a Healthcare Environment would be greatly advantageous.
  • Holds or has held a relevant Appointed Persons Status. Or be prepared to undertake relevant AP training.
  • Working Knowledge of the appropriate Standards including Scottish Health Technical Memorandums.
  • SSSTS would be advantageous.

This role includes a DS Basic check therefore ability to pass is essential.
