Local Unit & Position Description

The Offshore Infrastructure department is a world leading verification unit comprising over 100 highly skilled employees, delivering verification services to customers within the energy industry. Within the department, the VMC section focuses on the design review and survey of the supply chain.

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a strong academic record and up to 5 years’ experience working in the Energy Sector. As a verification engineer you will develop a strong grounding in engineering analysis and independently verifying work that has been carried out by engineering design houses, engineering procurement contractors, Oil & Gas Operators etc. You may also attend onshore and offshore sites where we carry out surveillance activities for testing and/or manufacturing.

You will develop expertise in a wide range of areas such as subsea infrastructure, piping, pressure vessels, vales, trees, wellheads, offshore containers, safety systems and project management. The engineer will be client facing and will progress to actively managing their own projects. The engineer is expected to prepare technical reports, tenders and proposals.

An enthusiastic and cooperative approach to working with other members of the team is vital. Over time the Mechanical Engineer will develop a strong understanding of the interplay between their area of specialism and the various engineering disciplines that contribute to any single project. Attendance at meetings and preparation and delivery of presentations will be required.

Position Qualifications

  • Qualified to BEng (Hons) level (MEng preferred) in Mechanical Engineering (other related disciplines will be considered), 2:1 or higher
  • Motivated to work towards chartership with a relevant Engineering Institution
  • Between 2- and 5-years’ experience as a Mechanical Engineer within the Energy Sector
  • Basic understanding of applicable offshore legislation for the UKCS. Knowledge & understanding of applicable codes and standards used within the offshore industry
  • Understanding of the challenges posed by the Energy Transition with the willingness to learn new skills as DNV adapts to meet the needs of a changing world
  • Excellent IT skills, adept in use of Microsoft Office applications. Programming knowledge (e.g. Python) would be an advantage
  • Project Management skills is a great plus

Whilst the position is a predominantly office-based role occasional travel to client premises may be required.
