Do you have experience in a fast-paced manufacturing department? Have 3+ years or above Engineering experience in a variety of areas? Hold an Advanced Apprenticeship in engineering?

As an inclusive, forward thinking business, we take pride in our approach to breeding across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering Team, based across our Hatcheries in Herefordshire and Shropshire.

This position is ideally suited to someone with a Level 3 qualification in Engineering looking to further their career.

Purpose of the role:
As a Maintenance Engineer you will: be required to maintain on a daily basis, the hatcheries machinery and associated plant and ancillary equipment allied with the establishment process, such as setting and hatching machines & ventilation, and to carry out ongoing improvement projects.

A fast-paced, dynamic Hatchery environment which is noisy and odorous in some areas. The role is both factory and office based.

Your key responsibilities as a Maintenance Engineer will include:
• Take the Lead on engineering practices within the hatchery.
• Ensure the Engineering maintenance carried out in line with the schedule and effective and efficient corrective action is taken.
• Quick and effective response to breakdowns, where possible identifying root cause and suggesting possible improvements to prevent further breakdowns occurring.
• Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to the Hatchery Manager and work with operations to minimise Hatchery disruption.
• Follow good engineering standards and good hygiene practice for the department.
• Ensure all activities are carried out within company and legislative health and safety guidelines, highlighting possible areas of improvement to the Hatchery Manager.
• Timely reporting of any Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Issues
• Follow the communicated escalation route for unscheduled Hatchery downtime and minimise downtime by following a good engineering practice.
• Demonstrate basic problem solving techniques to identify root cause of issues.
• Raise Stock and Non-Stock request forms.
• Contractor Management.
• Assist the hatchery team in the hatching process as and when required.

What we are looking for:
You must have a Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multi-task and thrive in a timeline-driven environment. Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work individually or part of a team.
Essential
• Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering
• 3+ years of engineering experience
• Electrical experience/ Welding / fabrication experience
• Familiarity with process machinery or equivalent equipment and have the ability to fault find
• Mechanical fitting skills
Desirable
• HNC/Higher Level Apprenticeship or above
• IEE 17th or 18th Edition desirable
• Food manufacture experience
• Instrumentation and process control experience
• PLC experience
• Air and pneumatics trained
• Refrigeration experience
• Plumbing / Pipe fitting experience
• Welding / fabrication experience
