Do you like sharing quality time with friends, going to nice places, trying new experiences, then topping it all off with a good chat over a bite to eat? If this sounds like your idea of a lovely day out, then this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

As a Mencap Visiting Service volunteer, you will be sharing a small amount of your time – 6 visits a year, with a person who has a learning disability.

The person you will be visiting lives independently with support. She is very friendly, energetic and bubbly. She enjoys a vast range of activities from swimming, walking, shopping and having a good old chat over a bite to eat and drink. She also likes watching films, listening to music, going to the theatre and reading.

You will be introduced and get to know to this lady with the support of Mencap staff. We believe that having a Mencap visiting volunteer will make a huge difference to her. By simply spending time with this lady you can provide fun and friendship.

She would enjoy visits any evening or weekend ideally, as she attends groups and activities 5 days week. Each visit will be unique and activities and outings will be decided by your shared interests.

The Mencap visiting service was launched in 1963 and was designed to be a befriending service to adults with a learning disability for after their parents passed away.
For more information please read the volunteer role profile.

To apply, you will first need to register to use the Mencap recruitment system. Once logged in, you will then need to click the "apply" button, and fill in our 1 page application form.

You can also apply by downloading and filling in the form from the "Additional information" button at the bottom of the page. You will need to email your completed form to annette.lewis@mencap.org.uk.

Mencap are strongly encouraging all our colleagues to have the Covid-19 vaccine as a way to help protect each other and the people we support. This is especially important in direct support roles as evidence is starting to grow that the vaccine could help stop the spread of the virus, as well as protecting the person vaccinated from getting very ill.

In addition, it is mandatory that you take a lateral flow test on the day of your volunteering.
