We are looking for someone like you to become our all-new LookDev Artist and join our passionate and talented VFX team, where we are building on the years of success that Rebellion has enjoyed.

LookDev Artist role

The LookDev Artist is a new role dedicated to defining the look of computer-generated creatures or objects to ensure all the art in the project is consistent. You will have strong artistic ability and talent for creative experimentation. As part of the VFX team, you will play a key role in collaborating with other artists developing different looks and balancing the processes of texturing, lighting and rendering to match reference images and real footage.

This role would suit someone with a background in the VFX industry with strong proficiency in Maya, Houdini and Nuke.

The Rebellion VFX team create or manipulate any on-screen imagery that does not physically exist in real life that would otherwise be impractical or impossible to film in the context of a live-action shoot.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with designers and developers regarding the design brief and visual style of the project
• Research resources and game genre materials for the development of graphics
• Create mood boards, colour schemes and lighting plans as references for animators and designers
• Sketch key scenes, environments, characters and assets within the same style
• Produce a variety of variations of designs and concepts for approval
• Create prototypes for testing
• Oversee the visual development of the design process to maintain a consistent look
• Maintain production documentation
• Adhere to the production schedule
• Finish all textures with special effects, lighting, shading, etc
• Handle input/output files
• Maintain production documentation
• Assist in curation of asset libraries
• Establish format procedures and guidelines
• Ensure that textures are believable and work well on screen
• Test ideas to achieve maximum quality results
• Provide rough preliminary composits of renders for review
• Apply texture maps, set up scene templates, and define standard render passes

Requirements

• At least 2+ years of experience in a similar position
• Experience in storyboarding
• Experience of Film/TV development pipeline
• Highly experienced in texturing and adding effects to textures
• Experience with fur and hair grooming and cloth simulation design
• Extensive knowledge of Maya, Nuke & Houdini
• Excellent attention to detail
• High level drawing and conceptual skills
• Solid technical knowledge of what the engine and programming limits are, and the capabilities of a project
• Strong understanding of visual language - texture, colour, dimension, scale, perspective, shade, composition depth of field, proportion, lighting, spatial awareness, etc.
