This role is offering £315 P/Day (UMB)_

Job Summary:*

To be the principal point of contact and supplier of legal and information governance advice. To represent and act on behalf of the Council in the protection and enforcement of the Council’s rights and responsibilities

To act as the principal solicitor and legal advisor in the provision of local government, public law, and constitutional advice to the Council. To assist and deputise for the Assistant Director – Governance when required.

To advise or procure the advice to ensure that the Council fulfils its lawful obligations, statutory duties and performs its functions and activities in accordance with the law and the principles of good governance.

Key Duties/Accountabilities:*

*
A member of the Governance Leadership Team taking a proactive role in ensuring that the Council’s vision, values, and objective are met in accordance with the law and best practice.
*
Overall professional and strategic legal advice to the Council for development and implementation of priorities.
*
Be professional expert and act as lead advisor for constitutional & local government law, democratic services, and overview & scrutiny
*
To undertake such duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably specified by the Assistant Chief Executive and Chief Executive under the scheme of delegation and within the legislative framework and regulations associated with services

Essential Experience Required:*

*
Experience and a track record of providing high quality,
*
progressive legal and procedural advice within a relevant context (eg, local government, public sector, other relatable sector) to senior leaders and other stakeholders
*
Ability to provide expert legal opinion to establish practical and solutions to complex legal, contractual, or service delivery issues

*
Essential Qualifications Required:*

*
Educated to degree level or equivalent, or significant experience in a relevant field.
*
Qualified solicitor or barrister with substantial post qualification experience
