Job Description

We are looking for a kind and compassionate CAREGiver for this lovely couple who live in Bridport Dorset.

They are both in their early 90's and have been married for nearly 70 years! Both have their own care needs with the lady recently having suffered from a Stroke. Prioir to this she was caring for her husband along with local carers who would visit a few times a day. ALongside this she was also managing the household including growing their own vegetables. As she was hospitalised after having the Stroke; a Live In Carer was organised for him on a temporary basis.

The husband is able to walk a little with a frame, requires support with maintaining using the bathroom as his is incontinent and he also has some heart problems.

Both he and and his wife are in full possession of their faculties, though he has become very quiet and can struggle to communicate due to his deafness. He has a wound on his toe that is not healing and has been on antibiotics a number of times. He has regular visits from the district nurse to dress it.

The wife has returned home from hospital with a walking frame and is still able to go upstairs to sleep. She can talk clearly though a mild right facial paralysis remains. She is pottering about in the house and was delighted to manage to write a shopping list with her right hand the other day. She has also had regular visits from the district nurse owing to a chronic cut on her leg that won’t heal properly.

Throughout their 67 years of marriage they have rarely been apart and have both been very worried about each other. She is a passionate gardener and is always active. He used to enjoy playing rugby and golf, reading the papers (which he continues to do) watches cricket and rugby on TV, and history. They both adore their 3 children, and 6 grandchildren who spent many holidays with them.

Qualifications

As a CAREGiver a willingness to learn along with great communications skills are a must. Patience, warmth and an empathetic nature with the ability to cope under pressure is beneficial. Experience of looking after individuals with Dementia, in particularly advanced dementia would be extremely beneficial in order to provide the highest level of care to our couple. In return you will be fully supported by our experienced team 24/7 as an essential member of Home Instead Yeovil, Sherborne and Bridport.
