Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Science

Job description

The University of South Wales, a member of the Teaching Excellence Alliance, is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Science. Working as a member of the School of Applied Science, you will be part of the larger Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science, a faculty that is well known for its vocational degrees and applied research.


Based at the Pontypridd campus, the successful candidate will utilise their current or recent experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry/lecturing in pharmaceutical science to successfully design, coordinate, and deliver specialist modules on formulation science, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and quality management systems to final year BSc and MSc students in addition to driving forward student research projects in the general area of pharmaceutical science.

As a Lecturer at USW, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver learning materials, and theoretical and applied practical experiences, with a particular focus on formulation science within the Pharmaceutical Science based suite of courses. These courses are specifically designed to produce graduates that are work ready to enter roles within the pharmaceutical and related industries and have a strong industrial focus. As such, the candidate will continue to engage with professional development ensuring they, and their teaching, remain up-to-date with the ever-changing regulatory and best practise landscape of the pharmaceutical industry. The candidate will also be required to contribute to the teaching of general and analytical chemistry to undergraduate students across the subject areas of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Science and Analytical and Forensic Science at lower levels.

Working across the School, the post holder will also be involved in the delivery of specialist topics within the Biological Sciences subject area as well as acting as the link officer for our pharmaceutical-based CPD course.

As someone who will be significantly involved in delivering final year projects, the candidate will need possess strong mentoring and pastoral care skills. The MSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry award recruits strongly from overseas so experience of working positively in a multicultural environment will be valuable.

In addition to student interfacing activities, the role will require engagement in various academic administration processes related to quality assurance and enhancement as well as engagement by the candidate in marketing and recruitment activities.

In line with USW’s Strategic Plan (https://www.southwales.ac.uk/about/our-strategy), the successful candidate would be expected to be involved in research and scholarly activity (which may be professional practice-based), and would continue this engagement to deliver evidence, practice, and/or research-based learning within the curriculum. It is expected that the candidate would engage with the activities of the accelerated development area of health and well-being and seek to collaborate internally and externally on relevant projects.

The successful candidate will join a hard-working well established team of staff in the Subject area of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Science, and become part of the wider scientific community within the School of Applied Sciences at USW. This position is based at the Pontypridd (Glyntaff) Campus of the University of South Wales.
