Cardiff Business School is embarking on a major faculty investment in support of its Public Value purpose. Recruitment is open to a large number of early career appointments across the School’s core areas of activity – Accounting and Finance; Economics; Logistics and Operations Management; Management, Employment and Organization; and Marketing and Strategy. The Lecturer appointments (Grades 6 and 7) will be made across all five of the School’s discipline areas.

Logistics and Operations Management: We are interested in applicants from all disciplines in this area, but we especially welcome applications from those with expertise in Digital Operations / Logistics Management, / Supply Chain Information Systems, or Maritime and International Transport, / International Trade.

£37,099 – £44,263 per annum (Grade 6) or
£46,974 - £54,395 per annum (Grade 7)

Job Description

Research

  • To conduct research within Accounting or Finance and contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University by the production of measurable outputs including bidding for funding, publishing in national academic journals and conferences, and the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students.
Grade 7: contribute to internationally recognised research performance

  • To develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research including research funding proposals
Grade 7: independently develop research objectives, acting as PI as required

  • To give conference/seminar papers at a local and national level
Grade 7: present at international level

  • To participate in School research activities.

Teaching

  • To design and deliver teaching programmes for courses and contribute to module development as part of a module team
Grade 7: independently contribute to module and course development and lead modules

  • To carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with examinations (setting and marking papers and providing constructive feedback to students), administration, participation in committee work, and the pastoral care of students of Cardiff University

  • To inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students under the guidance of a mentor / module leader and develop skills in assessment methods and in providing constructive feedback to students.

  • To supervise the work of students including the supervision of Undergraduate and Master’s students and the co-supervision of PGRs
Grade 7: Acts as a PGR progress review panel member as required
  • To act as a Personal Tutor and provide pastoral support to students

Other – all Grades

  • To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the School and the enhancement of its regional and national profile.

  • To undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance in the role of Lecturer.

  • To participate in School administration and activities to promote the School and its work to the wider University and the outside world

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education
1. Postgraduate degree at PhD level, or awaiting viva examination having formally submitted thesis in a related subject area, or relevant industrial experience
Grade 7: Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification or experience

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
2. An established expertise and proven portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within:
  • Digital Operations
  • Logistics Management
  • Supply Chain Information Systems
  • Maritime and International Transport
  • International Trade

3. Teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level
Grade 7: significant experience

4. Knowledge of current status of research in specialist field
Grade 7: growing national reputation within field

5. Proven ability to publish in national journals
Grade 7: proven substantial record of publications in high-impact national journals

6. Proven ability or the potential to be successful in competitive research funding
Grade 7: Strong portfolio of research grants

7. Ability to contribute to the delivery and continued development of modules across the School’s teaching programmes

Pastoral, Communication and Team Working
8. Proven ability in effective and persuasive communication

9. The ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to students and appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances, or to act as a personal tutor

Desirable Criteria

10. Relevant professional qualification(s).

11. Evidence of collaborations with industry.

12. Proven ability to work without close supervision

13. Proven ability to adapt to the changing requirements of the Higher Education community.

14. Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance the teaching and research activities of the School.

15. A willingness to take responsibility for academically related administration.

16. Fluency in Welsh, written and oral.

17. Experience of delivering online teaching.
