The Department of Humanities & Law is part of the Faculty of Media & Communication, one of the largest of its kind in the world, with a global reputation for combining practice, research, and teaching. The Department houses the Narrative, Culture and Community Research Centre. Alongside this, we are building our research specialisms in literary media and life writing with research expertise in digital and interactive storytelling, comics and graphic narratives, book history, publishing cultures, readers and communities, medical humanities and autofiction. The successful candidate will be invited to join a research centre/s aligned to their practice and/or research.

We have a flourishing academic culture in Humanities. We work in partnership with our students to co-create research and foster their ambitions. Our English provision is contemporary and includes a single honours undergraduate programme with strands of Creative Writing, Culture & Criticism, and Literary Media. Our Master’s provision includes MA English and Literary Media, and MA Creative Writing & Publishing which includes an online cohort with strong recruitment. A key develop focus is Bournemouth Publishing activities that includes Bournemouth Writing Prize, Fresher Publishing, and the New Media Writing Prize. We have excellent support for research at all levels of the University with a research ecology focussed on mentorship and career development.

We are seeking to recruit a Lecturer in English and Creative Writing (fixed-term, 1 year) to join our team. Teaching will be on the undergraduate and postgraduate provision and include a mixture of English and Creative Writing. You will join a team committed to equality, diversity, sustainability and embedding these principles in everything we do. You will be familiar with information technology and have the ability to develop innovative learning experiences for students online, mixed mode and face to face delivery. Your research specialism will align to English and Creative Writing, and you will have the ability to teach flexibly across a number of units.

You will be qualified to Doctoral level or be able to demonstrate the ability to create and disseminate knowledge at an equivalent level and the capability to convert this knowledge into a doctorate in a maximum of 3-5 years from date of appointment. You will be research active and committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.

This position is available on a fixed-term basis for 11 months.
