Your Role And Responsibilities

We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse who will take on the responsibility to be the Lead nurse at our Morley Hospital. This position will include clinical and administrative role responsibilities. We are looking for an RVN who is passionate in all aspects of the nursing role this includes, consulting, surgery, medicine and leadership.

The candidate will require experience in leadership and general practice nursing. You will help to facilitate the efficient and effective management of a team of nurses and PCA’s caring for a varied caseload within the hospital, whilst ensuring the delivery of exceptional care to patients.

We are looking for a nurse looking with a desire to focus their leadership and knowledge on all aspects of nursing, protocols, and procedures to ensure the highest standard of care is provided. This role is suited for someone with a desire to provide exceptional care to patients with a passion for leadership. You would be part of our Morley Hospital team and responsible for line managing the team of nurses and PCAs.

Expected Responsibilities Include
  • Maintain an overview of your team and provision of patient care across the team that you supervise.
  • Demonstrate an excellent work ethic and capability in all nursing duties including a high level of hygiene and the ability to recognise and undertake relevant actions with regards to infection control.
  • Approximately 90-95% of the role will be clinical duties with 5- 10% of the role being designated to admin time.
  • Provide leadership to those working within the hospital
  • Ensure all associates within the hospital are aware of their roles and are clear on their objectives.
  • Working alongside Clinical Nurse Managers and other leads in the business to ensure effective workflow and communication is happening across all services with colleagues and clients.
  • Work alongside the clinicians, nurses, and PCAs to provide nursing plans and care for all in-patients
  • Run regular team meetings to review processes and protocols with a view to progressing and improving where possible
  • Ensure the risks of nosocomial infections and cross contamination are minimised by practicing good hygiene – maintenance and completion of infection control check lists in all areas.
  • Oversee the maintenance and follow up on any faulty/broken equipment
  • Work closely with the Team Leaders and CNM’s to plan for the daily case load/patient flow and highlight any issues or concerns that may arise
  • Work with other disciplines to ensure active handovers received for patients coming back to the clinic following procedures
  • Lead team briefings and daily huddles to ensure effective and efficient communication
  • Involvement in aiding in research and development within the veterinary sector in multiple disciplines, as well as supported self-clinical progression
  • Engage with practice projects such as: PSS, CFC, DFC, RFC, IIE Bronze etc.
  • Taking responsibility for your patients from admit to discharge including pricing for all treatments and procedures carried out.
  • Work with the CNM’s to help support the identification, prioritisation and implementation of learning, development and CPD for nurses in your team where required.
  • Work with the CNM’s and lead nurses to ensure all new nurses entering the business are supported to complete their induction.
  • Provide effective leadership of those within your team including regular feedback to the team leaders to establish any associates who could benefit from mentoring, coaching and development discussions.
  • Participate in external CPD any training in-house, ensuring post-training feedback forms are completed/cascade of relevant information to appropriate team members.
  • Encourage the use of VetSafe and lead by example in this area, providing support where necessary.
  • Liaise with CNM’s and Team Leaders regarding the cascade of information and actions from Linnaeus central office as necessary.
  • Comply with the Health and Safety policies for the different areas of the practice/ hospital.
  • Adhere to confidentiality relating to all aspect of the business including complying with and assisting with all requirements relating to GDPR compliance.
Our Lead nurses but will be expected to support our Morley hospital team on weekends and Bank Holidays. Weekends will be 1 in 8 and 2 Bank holidays a year. Our Hospital does have its own dedicated hospital nurses, rotating nurses, surgical nurses and student veterinary nurses. We have a team of patient care assistants who provide 24hour care to our hospitalised patients and work alongside all other departments within the hospital.

We are looking for someone who will not only go above and beyond for our patients, but for their colleagues too. Candidates must be qualified RVNs and will be proactive, enthusiastic, approachable, a great team player, able to use their own initiative and self-motivated. Candidates must have at least 12months post qualification experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task with a flexible approach to working are essential.
