Which is where you join the journey.What To ExpectAs a Lead Project Engineer - Manufacturing Technology Development you will have the chance to lead and manage research and technology development projects and teams within JLR’s Manufacturing Research Technology Development (MRTD) function, which focuses on four key research pillars: Electrification, ICE, Productivity and Factory of the Future. Your responsibility will be to oversee a small team, work closely with internal JLR resources like Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering (PTME) process engineers and Powertrain research, as well as external partners such as universities and research and development organisations, to ensure that all deliverables are finished within the designated budget and time frame. This is a special chance to participate in and actively contribute to the ongoing propulsion transformation activities.Key accountabilities and responsibilities:
  • Leading cross-functional teams and having line authority over engineers, graduates, or apprentices as needed to support the department’s expansion.
  • Establish internal and external networks and turn into the main new technology interface for academic, research, and product development groups and build business connections,
  • Ensuring that all new technology opportunities are robustly evaluated at key stages during the technology creation and management process.
  • Participate in the development of Advanced Technology strategy and Business strategies, including Manufacturing Engineering Technology roadmap formulation and approval.
  • Establish and maintain a database of technology utilised by JLR’s competitors in the production of powertrains to help with strategic and tactical evaluations.
What You Will Need
  • Experience and knowledge in the field of manufacturing research technologies and strong technical and development expertise
  • Experience in leading and delivery of the project within time and budget
  • Experience in identifying new business opportunities, including new technology, new partnerships across academic, research, and product development groups.
  • Good experience in leading the resolution of business, technical and process issues within a Project Team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with influencing and engagement skills.
  • Experience in team leadership, mentoring and upskilling the team members.
  • Passion for continual improvement of process and technologies
  • Will be comfortable in an environment where knowledge is not always available and must be developed in a timely and cost-effective fashion.
  • Experience of working on externally (government) funded projects, consortium building or bid writing.
