Continually pushing the boundaries of innovation and redefining the benchmark for excellence, we set the standards others want to follow. We want to keep it that way too. Which is where you join the journey.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This role will lead the offcycle innovation for process development for conventional cold stamping processes within GME Stamping, optimising our cold forming processes and exploring alternative processes such as forming at temperature or casting. Working closely with our Feasibility & Process Engineering teams, Tooling & Process teams, Strategic Business Planning team, Design and Product Engineering, you will play a key part in delivering Modern Luxury, identifying and validating the technologies that will unlock our design and manufacturing vision. You will be responsible for all stages of project delivery, including identification, scoping, validation and industrialisation. You’re likely to be highly driven and motivated by exciting design and manufacturing challenges and inspired by cross-functional work with multiple stakeholders, both internal to JLR and external suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and scope cold-forming and alternative process development projects –
- carry out desktop studies, industry benchmarking, identify potential suppliers and partners, understand impacts to stakeholders and complete business case assessments.
- Analyse and verify technical data, coordinate physical testing to confirm process applicability and stability, relevant to the JLR production environment and volumes.
- Deliver successful industrialisation and implementation of new processes including writing any new standard documentation required.
- Lead point of contact for off-cycle process-related technical queries, working with teams both within GME Stamping and wider JLR to close out technical debt items through permanent corrective actions.
- Consult and develop internal process training, to suit a wide variety of audience and experiences.
- Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.
- Experience in developing new forming process technologies through scoping, validation and implementation e.g. forming at temperature and casting.
- In-depth knowledge of the complete cold forming stamping process, ranging from feasibility & process engineering, press tool design, manufacture and maturation linking that to press line technology in relation to process optimisation.
- Understanding of metal formability, specifically automotive aluminium and steel.
- Awareness of Press Shop operations – production, tooling & facility maintenance, material planning and flow.
- Awareness of key aspects of future business planning – human resources, facilities & footprint, capacity etc. and how these relate to the implementation of any new process technologies into production.
- A track record of working collaboratively cross-functionally, managing and influencing stakeholders and communicating complex technical detail that can be understood by non-expert audiences.
- Relevant degree, or equivalent experience, preferred in either an engineering or scientific discipline.
Bring all this to the home of premium innovation, and you’ll find the opportunities to further your career with a world-class team, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, membership of a competitive pension plan and performance related bonus scheme. All this and more makes JLR the perfect place to continue your journey.
JLR is committed to equal opportunity for all.
