Vacancy: Lead Process Engineer

Role

To lead manufacturing technology development activities and process engineering for projects in the Efficient Natural Resources Sector and to assist their delivery through to final handover and operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead manufacturing assessments together with technology selection, scale-up and site selection for projects
  • Lead the production of concept and front-end engineering design for various projects across the Sector, including block diagrams and process flow diagrams (PFD’s), design basis, heat and material balance, preliminary piping and instrumentation diagrams (PID’s), etc… together with the necessary design reviews . These projects will vary significantly in size and opportunity / challenge level.
  • Ensure continuity of process engineering design through later project phases to commissioning and handover.
  • Ensure all necessary EHS and Process Safety aspects for the projects are dealt with as part of the process design in compliance with JM Group procedures and standards working closely with the Project Manager, EHS and Process Safety teams, including completion if necessary safety studies such as hazard studies, layer of protection analysis, etc.
  • Lead the project technical decision-making process, gaining the support of the Project Manager, business lead and site asset manager.
  • Lead and possibly line manage other more junior process engineers working on the projects
  • Are you the ideal candidate?
    • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
    • Extensive experience working as a process engineer in the process industry (oil and gas, mining and metals, chemicals, pharmaceuticals.
    • Sound knowledge of engineering and regulatory standards in the UK and EU
    • Track record of leading technical teams
    • Ability to operate creatively and effectively at the project initiation stage (where the scope is not fully defined) and steer the technical work programme and decision-making process
    • Scale-up experience including mapping of necessary technical work, trials, identification and demonstration of appropriate technologies, etc… for the transfer of lab scale recipes into full scale process designs, working closely with R&D teams
    • Chemical plant design experience, including working with engineering contractors
