Job Description

We are looking for a Lead PMO to join Airbus in Filton. You will join our professional Project Management team in partnership with the Single Aisle Wing Value Stream Management (VSM) in Filton. You will report directly to the Head of PM Office Single Aisle Wing VSM.

The VSM is the Industrial Programme Management with End to End accountabilities on Time, Quality and Cost. The VSM streams are located in Filton, Broughton and Bremen.

You will be motivated and passionate to maximise and drive best practice PM governance, methods and tools across the streams of the VSM.

You will support the Single Aisle Wing VSM team (OSW) at stream level in all aspects of professional project management to achieve time, cost and performance objectives.

The primary focus will be on Work Package & Transfer of Work Management, but skills and experience in all of the following areas will be required.

  • Work Package & ToW Management
  • Change Control & MOD Implementation
  • Integrated Planning & Performance Management
  • Ramp Up Governance & Enablement Projects

You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check).

Tasks & accountabilities

As the successful candidate, your main activities will include:

  • Leading the continual development and update of PM governance and support to work package and transfer of work (ToW) activities and projects within the SA Wing VSM.
  • Driving and supporting all associated inputs to VSM level meetings and reporting including Performance, Enablement, Risk and Finance.
  • Ensuring VSM projects are supported with a strong Project Management Expertise and that appropriate Project & Programme Management structure, governance and practices are applied. The scope of involvement will span across the streams of the VSM team.
  • Working with the VSM project leaders & project organisation on a day to day basis.
  • Raising the understanding and acceptance of best practice project management within the VSM teams by coaching and providing awareness sessions, challenging project leaders where needed.
  • Shaping methods and tools in accordance with PM standards to the needs of the project / activity.
  • Supporting efficient communication and stakeholder management, ensuring that activities are aligned with interfacing projects and operations.
  • Promoting Agile WoW and acting as Scrum Master for project activities where needed.
  • Establishing End to End project plans and controlling all changes versus the initial baseline. Identifying associated Earned Value Management (EVM) milestones and project critical paths.
  • Tracking performance versus plan throughout the project lifecycle. Analysing project information to anticipate deviations from target and proposing preventive / corrective actions to support project level decision making. Providing clear and regular reporting throughout all project phases.
  • Driving the Risk & Opportunity Management process in line with the existing R&OM plan. Owning the associated R&O register and regularly providing the Project Leader & A320 Family Risk Officer with the current risk and opportunity status.
  • Jointly working with Finance to compare cost incurred and time spent for progress achieved against current planning.
  • Preparing and publishing of reports as required. Defining and delivering relevant KPls & dashboards for effective performance management. Contributing to all team reviews as required. Preparing and supporting project management reviews (Project Review Meetings, Operational meetings etc.).
  • Implementing smart digital solutions within the VSM for automated reporting, Key Performance Indicators (KPI) generation, and planning. Working with PALANTIR tools (SkyWise) to create required data sets and analyses. Using advanced business tools (e.g. PALANTIR, G-Suite, Data Studio, KPI Factory, SAP, Unified Planning) to increase transparency, minimise manual operations and to enable faster and better decision making.

This role may involve occasional travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Skills & Experience

  • Educated to Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business administration or other.
  • Demonstrated experience in Project Management in a complex organisation
  • Background in at least 2 functions (e.g. Procurement, Engineering, ICT, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations) in Project and Programme Management roles.
  • Good working knowledge and experience of Aircraft production / Aircraft engineering.
  • Experience of working with suppliers.
  • Knowledge of relevant European legislation (e.g. REACH), substances regulations.
  • Holder of Airbus PM Certification – Bronze level / PMP® certification.
  • Good working knowledge of a variety of Airbus systems and tools.
  • Knowledge and experience in Agile PM methodologies (Scrum, SAFe ...).
  • Experience in stakeholder management, ability to engage skills of different functions.
  • Negotiation level of English mandatory. German and/or French skills appreciated
