Lead NPI Engineer

We currently have a vacancy for a Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer at our site in Rochester, Kent.

As a Lead NPI Engineer, you will be part of a cross-functional development team, responsible for the execution of development programmes that take our world class technologies and ensure they are packaged into a product that meets the required quality standards, delivered on time and to cost.

This role will provide you with the chance to work with an array of technologies and depending upon which product portfolio you are engaged within, they will contain one or more of the following: mechanical, electronic, electro-mechanical and optical. There will be the opportunity for development in managing and leading teams across the operations environment.

Your main responsibilities as a Lead NPI Engineer will involve:
  • Developing the manufacturing strategy of the product, these strategies will be captured within the manufacturing plan and maintained as the product maturity develops through Bid, Development, Qualification and Initial Production
  • Working collaboratively with the Engineering functions to review and influence designs to ensure they are suitable to meet Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC) targets, by implementation of high yield, efficient manufacturing processes
  • Using both your own experiences and subject matter experts within the NPI team, to identify DFM (Design for Manufacture) work packages that optimise cost/manufacturability whilst managing manufacturing process risks
  • Managing NPI project: labour expenditure, DTUPC and project schedule
  • Presenting weekly project status to the operations management team, and monthly to the project team during Project Performance Review (PPR)
  • Managing the manufacture of prototype and development assets by driving MRP
  • Creating build documentation to instruct build technicians. Capture and implement changes from lessons learned during prototyping stage.


Essential Skills

Your skills and qualifications:
  • Degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline
  • Proven experience of working within a Manufacturing or Engineering environment
  • Managing Teams
  • Developing/refining new/existing manufacturing processes
  • Application of DFM (Design for Manufacture) methodologies during product development


Desirable Skills
  • Creation and delivery of manufacturing instructions to build technicians
  • Creation and management of Process FMEAs
  • Working within a EN9100 compliant environment
  • Development of product using AS9145 or PPAP
  • Knowledge of MRP Systems
