We are looking for an experienced PHP developer with good knowledge of Laravel or Wordpress to join our fast growing development team. We are The Digital Maze, a group of agencies that has recently aggregated all development into a single team, combining development resource from Evolve, Frogspark and Boom. This has resulted in a strong design and front end development team and we are now looking to strengthen our back end development team.

The successful candidate will possess a balance of expert knowledge of PHP, Laravel, Wordpress, MySQL and strong experience with version control systems and REST and/or GraphQL web services.

This role is currently remote, however the role will require you to attend collaboration and planning days in our Long Eaton office on occasion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure our applications are built to a high-standard, but not to let perfect be the enemy of done.
  • Troubleshooting and debugging
  • Managing hosting environments
  • Keeping on top of new technologies and offering input towards improving our engineering standards.
  • Coach more junior members of the team to ensure their performance is as high as possible
You will be reporting to the Technical Director and will work closely with our Front End Developers, Client Services team, and offshore development teams.

Essential Requirements:
  • Knowledge and experience using PHP, Laravel, Wordpress, MySQL and VCS
  • 3 years website/web application development
  • Organised with excellent verbal communication skills
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team of designers, developers and system administrators
  • Able to define and communicate technical and design requirements
  • Knowledge of accessibility and security compliance
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
Desirable, but not essential, requirements:
  • Knowledge and experience using REST and GraphQL
  • Experience working alongside offshore development teams
  • A degree in Computer Science or similar
