We are seeking a Laboratory and Facilities Technician to join our busy facilities team. You will provide professional, service-focused laboratory and facilities support to the diverse research work carried out in the Department. The role underpins the facilities support service whilst ensuring that best practice procedures and Health and Safety are maintained at all times. Based out of the West Wing on the JR Hospital you will support the work of all NDCN laboratories, as well as the laboratories of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine (CVMed) located in the West Wing.
The responsibilities are varied but include: ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the laboratories, providing a high level of customer service at all times, operate autoclaves for sterilization, advising colleagues or students on the use of equipment.
You will have experience of working in a laboratory environment, Educated to A-level or equivalent, ideally in a science. You must also have good organisational skills with strong attention to detail e.g. able to organise samples and record results in a clear, accurate and organised fashion. You will be able to work independently and unsupervised, with initiative to anticipate problems and have the ability to work co-operatively as part of a team, while taking personal responsibility for assigned tasks. Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to liaise with a wide range of people. to undertake manual handling activities as well as be able to use standard computer programs (Outlook, Word, Excel). Experience of carrying out basic scientific procedures in a laboratory environment is a desirable.
The post is full time for 3 years Fixed-term.
