Job description

This vacancy is only open to North Somerset Council employees and agency workers contracted to North Somerset Council.


Hours: Full time or less than full time hours will be considered
Contract: Fixed term until 31 March 2024


We are looking for a Health Protection Officer to help us prevent and respond to threats to health from Covid-19 and other infectious diseases and emergencies.


The role would ideally suit someone who is keen play their part in continuing to manage the risk from Covid-19 and is looking for a role where they will be working directly with various stakeholders and government agencies to respond to the challenges that arise in health protection.


You will be working directly with Consultants in Public Health and a Health Protection Manager to play a key part in our operational response. You will also pick up projects to support work across public health, regulatory services and emergency planning.


You will need to be comfortable handling difficult telephone calls in a sensitive manner and knowing when to escalate cases to senior colleagues. You will need to have working knowledge of Covid-19 policy and guidance as well as knowledge of the principles of health protection.


The role will be flexible with the need for occasional face-to-face meetings and site visits around North Somerset.
