Energy Manager

Can you help plan and deliver sustainable and inclusive growth in North Somerset?

Our newly formed Projects and Property Team is looking to recruit an Energy Manager who will be vital in providing a comprehensive compliance and management service to the Council and its Directorates in terms of its existing and future property assets.

From major infrastructure projects to new schools, from regeneration and maintenance projects to council estate transformation you will be key in delivering sustainable, inclusive, and low carbon growth; you will support the Senior Technical Manager to make sure these projects are delivered in line with our sustainable and green ambitions and meet the commitments within the North Somerset Corporate Plan.

This is a fixed term position for 2 years and is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon.

Please be advised that this office will be closed by 2025. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood; This will be at Weston-super-Mare or within North Somerset.

North Somerset Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 with the aim to be carbon neutral by 2030. Our newly formed Projects and Property Team is looking to recruit to an Energy Manager who will be vital to delivering the Climate Emergency Strategy and Climate Emergency Action Plan for the multi-million pound capital programme. This offers a significant opportunity to be involved in cross council working and to make a significant contribution to meeting carbon neutrality by 2030.

To be successful you will be an accomplished team player who will be an advocate for change and innovation, put customers first, work well with others and get things done.

Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, you will plan, regulate and monitor the energy use within North Somerset council property portfolio. Your focus will be to improve energy efficiency by evaluating energy usage and putting in place new policies and change mechanisms where needed to drive down energy usage and carbon outputs whilst ensuring the corporate stock is fit for business and user needs.

Additionally, the Energy Manager will support the council in the decarbonisation of council owned assets, installation of renewables on council owned buildings and EV rollout. Engaging with community renewable energy projects and ensuring the Local Plan policies support renewable energy sites whilst assessing options around alternative energy sources.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role within North Somerset.
