Job Title: Junior Lawyer Location: Agile worker Salary: Dependant on Experience About us JPIMedia is one of the largest national, regional and local multimedia organisations in the UK. We provide news and information services to our communities through our portfolio of hundreds of publications and websites. Role Overview A broad and demanding in-house role with considerable autonomy, reporting to the Legal Director. The successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of the group’s data protection policies, processes and compliance.

The successful applicant will also assist the Legal Director in providing support to editorial, commercial and corporate functions across the group. Key Responsibilities: * Manage all aspects of the group’s data protection policies, processes and compliance. * Work alongside the Legal Director, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Editorial teams and external advisors to provide pre-publication advice. * Work alongside the Legal Director, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Editorial teams and external advisors to resolve claims and complaints. * Support the Legal Director in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. * Draft and update the group’s policies and processes. * Draft and update guidance for the group on a range of legal issues to ensure needs are met and a high level of customer satisfaction is achieved. Skills and knowledge: * Understanding of data protection laws. * Understanding of pre-publication issues especially around defamation, contempt, privacy and the Editors’ Code of Practice, and / or a willingness to develop in this area. * Communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. * Commercial acumen through working with commercial colleagues/clients from multiple disciplines. Experience and Qualification: * Qualified lawyer (English or Scottish law). * Ideally 3-6 years PQE. * Experience in data protection law. * Experience of commercial contracts - either in-house or private practice. * Experience of giving pre-publication advice (desirable, and a willingness to learn / be involved in this area is essential). * Experience in dispute resolution (not essential).
