As a Barclays Java Developer, you will join us to work within Wealth and Investment Management, which provides private banking, wealth planning, investment management, brokerage services and research to private and intermediary clients in the UK. You will become part of our Wealth and Investments IT team where you will be using your skills to deliver leading edge technology solutions to support the Wealth and Investment Management division to all the functions that roll up to the Group Finance Director and the Group Chief Risk Officer.

What you’ll be doing?

  • Being a key member within one of the agile feature teams and the lead on API development for that team
  • Taking business and functional requirements and translating them into technical and functional designs for APIs, adapters and microservices
  • Producing and maintaining readable, well-documented code, along with accompanying automated test coverage
  • Undertaking unit and integration testing of code, and providing support to testing cycles ensuring that defects are resolved
  • Ensuring all project deliverables must be produced in accordance with governance practices and QA procedures
  • Contributing towards API best practice across all the feature teams
  • Partaking in all aspects of an iterative Agile development lifecycle

What We’re Looking For

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Java, Linux, Databases, Web Services, REST APIs
  • Proven ability to design and develop enterprise level software solutions using tools and techniques such as Source Control, Build Tools (e.g. Maven), TDD, automated CI/ CD
  • Excellent problem solving skills

Skills That Will Help You In The Role

  • Good communication skills – e.g. giving demos, documentation and tutorials, along with a commitment to meet project timelines
  • Good understanding of software development using agile methodologies
  • Experience in building distributed and service-orientated systems
  • Experience with MQ and Kafka
