Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join our South East healthcare, science and tertiary education team. You will be joining a team of like-minded experts that have a passion for innovation and delivering cutting edge solutions for a broad range of clients, working on a portfolio of projects in a successful and growing sector.

The requirement is for Principal level Electrical engineer, who is capable of working on and leading major healthcare projects, with excellent client facing skills, team leadership skills and who strives for technical excellence. The successful candidate will have proven design experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. This role will suit someone with who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and looking to advance their career.

The successful candidate will become part of AECOM’s South East Building Engineering team, working together to deliver our vision for the AECOM Healthcare sector. They will have an opportunity to grow and develop into a part of the leadership team, becoming responsible for leading and delivering projects, as well as developing relationships with clients and project teams and contributing to sector-focused technical excellence, thought leadership, exemplar bidding & project material and resource support.

Duties of the role will include, but not be limited to:
  • Building and Maintaining Client relationships
  • Mentoring and developing staff
  • Project Managing small to medium sized multi-disciplinary projects
  • Serve as discipline Lead engineer on mid-to large- size projects.
  • Assessing staff requirements at each work stage and be able to manage single disciplinary and multi-disciplinary projects
  • Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants to provide a fully coordinated design
  • Ensure the Design Team is kept fully informed of all technical and other information necessary for the duration of the project
  • Undertake the control of all production aspects of the projects in the team
  • Be familiar with the BIM design process and be capable of leading projects designed in Revit
  • Ensure compliance with all Statutory and Regulatory obligations, make submissions to the Statutory Authorities and obtain approvals as necessary
  • Produce all design information and ensure that all calculations are prepared and signed off in accordance with the requirements of the QA procedures, relevant Standards and Codes of Practice
  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepares technical specification sections.
  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
  • Represent AECOM at Client, Design Team and Progress meetings throughout the design and construction phases of projects
  • Input to pre-qualification and selection of contractors, respond to tender queries, comment and review tender returns
  • Attend tender / client interviews
  • Attend site inspection meetings
  • Ensure the project work complies with the Project Management Plan and Programme
  • Understand and implement AECOM’s Safety Health and Environment Policy
  • Contribute to the electrical forum, sharing knowledge with the internal team

Minimum Requirements

Work experience within a similar consultancy or other relevant business
  • Project experience within the healthcare, science and tertiary education sector
  • A strong technical understanding of electrical building services, including HTM 06-01 and other healthcare design standards
  • Willingness to travel to clients and sites across the South East of England and occasionally further afield
  • The ability to work accurately, independently and efficiently, and to take ownership of projects
  • Effective communication skills and be a team worker
  • Mentoring and support skills for the engineers and technicians in the team
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written reports and oral presentations

Preferred Qualifications
  • BEng or BSc for a relevant engineering course (MEng or MSc preferred)
  • Chartered Engineer with CIBSE / IET / IMechE
