Working Hours

Department Description

Marketing & Business Development

We have a well-established global M&BD team which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, client relationship management and reputational activities.

The team is divided into several key areas including Clients & Industries, covering Industry M&BD and Client Development (where this role sits); Practice M&BD; Communications, which comprises Public Relations, Brand, Design, Events, and Digital; Operations & Systems, which manage strategic global pitches and operations; and Strategic Initiatives, a team dedicated to managing and driving forward firm-wide profile building initiatives.

Financial Institutions and Insurance Sector (FIIS)

Consisting of over 800 lawyers across the globe and Hogan Lovells’ largest industry sector group, FIIS is dedicated to serving our clients in the financial institutions and insurance space.

Our global, cross-practice FIIS team provide the insights our clients need, wherever they need it. Whether it is assisting with structural reform, competition investigations, patenting new technology or entering new markets and developing new products, we offer full-service solutions to our clients at any stage of development or challenge.

We advise across the spectrum, including advising retail and investment banks, FinTechs,/InsurTechs and disruptors, lenders, asset managers, intermediaries, infrastructure providers as well as industry bodies and regulators. Our team brings a complete market view to the projects we work on.

Role Overview

We need a capable, self-motivated and enthusiastic adviser to support the M&BD Managers and M&BD activities for the Financial Institutions & Insurance sector, with a particular focus on leading our top tier FinTech global capability (an important sector priority area) and supporting our Financial Services Regulatory practice and leading on client facing events for the Financial Institutions Sector (FIS).

  • This is a broad remit across some important and fast-paced exciting areas of law – and integral in helping to drive forward our strategy, to ensure we:

  • maximise our opportunities to grow our revenues from existing and prospective clients across the practice and industry sectors;

  • raise the firm’s profile and position within our key markets; and

  • leverage and coordinate our people, knowledge and resources in an effective and efficient manner.

The role will encompass the full range of M&BD activities including: pitching, credentials and other marketing collateral; client targeting and cross-selling; client/sector and competitor analysis; profile raising and marketing campaigns including events, communications, directory submissions, and BD evaluation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Pitching, Targeting And New Business Generation

  • Advising partners and teams on practice specific and sector-focused new business opportunities, and providing support on the development of our approach, team, proposition and supporting materials;

  • Acting as the lead for pitches, the pitch process and opportunities for FIIS, including writing proposals and credentials whilst ensuring best practice methodology is applied;

  • Writing and producing other materials, including updating a suite of standard material for the Financial Services practice and for FinTech, including client presentations;

  • Developing relationships across practice and regional M&BD teams to ensure access to relevant credentials and collaboration on global panel reviews, multi-jurisdictional and multi-practice pitches; and

  • Undertaking and maintaining post-pitch feedback where appropriate.

Client Development

  • Supporting the Industry M&BD Managers and the Industry Sector Heads to oversee the portfolio of clients within the industry sector: creating processes for prioritising clients, monitoring and reviewing performance and sharing best practice;

  • Supporting the Industry M&BD Managers on the management of a number of the firm’s key clients within FIIS, with potential to take on their own client management responsibilities;

  • Encouraging full and effective use of the firm’s CRM database and client best practice toolkit; and

  • Conducting "client listening" (post matter reviews, client service reviews and post pitch debriefs) for key clients.

Planning And Budgeting

  • Working with the Industry M&BD Managers, the Industry Sector Heads and other partners on the implementation of M&BD plans and budgets for the sector, regularly monitoring and reporting on progress.

  • Delivering market research, client analysis and internal intelligence to support the annual business planning process.

Marketing Campaigns, Thought Leadership And Profile Raising

  • Contributing to integrated campaigns to help raise our profile and awareness amongst our key target audience and generate opportunities to meet potential clients;

  • Planning, implementing and measuring international marketing communications programmes, including targeted seminar programmes, client facing material production, client events, website development etc. to raise our profile and generate BD opportunities.

  • Working with the central PR team, on the implementation of effective profile raising and external communications. Supplementing this with sector social media and client communications strategy.

  • Co-ordinating the directory and award submission process for FIS and Insurance globally.

  • Internal communication and knowledge sharing

  • Ensuring the industry sector core teams and various sub-groups are meeting regularly to move forward the sector plans, and they are coordinating and engaging effectively with the wider community of lawyers within the sectors.

  • Delivering an efficient framework for internal reporting and communication of sector BD activities and successes, including through newsletters and the industry sector Intranet sites and providing information for wider management reporting.

  • Maintaining structured and up-to-date BD information and knowledge, such as credentials and information for pitches.

Wider M&BD Projects

  • Managing and contributing to wider M&BD projects as required, including the development of the firmwide industry programme.

  • Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location and services.

Person Specification

Qualifications And Training

  • 2.1 at degree level from a reputable institution

  • Four to five years of relevant experience.

  • Strong previous experience of working in a marketing & business development focused role in a professional services firm.

  • Some exposure to industry sector marketing and business development.

  • A solid understanding of the commercial world and its drivers.

Desired

  • Prior knowledge and experience of working in a law firm and/or exposure to the financial services / insurance sectors would be advantageous.
