IT Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Short Walk from Edinburgh Waverley

We are currently hiring on behalf of a financial company located in Edinburgh. The role on offer involves overseeing the day-to-day operations of desktop, server, network, and telephony administration within the IT Infrastructure environment. This is a key opportunity for an adept IT professional to contribute to the seamless functioning of the companies IT systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake daily operational checks, investigating and resolving identified problems.
• Answer, evaluate, and prioritise user requests via telephone, email, or in person, ensuring swift resolutions
• Log and track IT incidents through to resolution, implementing preventive measures where possible.
• Provide IT support for all aspects of internal IT Infrastructure, covering desktop, server, network, and telephony.
• Conduct troubleshooting activities and escalate high-priority incidents to senior IT personnel.
• Send timely communications to business users during service-impacting incidents or planned maintenance.
• Liaise with external support vendors for IT Infrastructure and cloud solutions.
• Execute documented standard operating procedures
• Contribute to the global IT knowledge base
• Demonstrate a proactive attitude towards cybersecurity, suggesting improvements to senior management.

Required Capabilities:

Experience:

• Possess technical skills in infrastructure support gained through experience in audiovisual solutions, Microsoft technologies, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and other network protocols.
• Ability to collaborate with technical peer groups regionally and globally.
• Strong customer focus and interpersonal skills, with effective written and oral communication abilities.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to work with teams, colleagues, and business units.
• Flexibility and adaptability in managing work within a changing environment.
• Self-motivated with the capability to work on shift and on-call outside regular working hours.
• ITIL experience or similar working knowledge of incident, problem & change management.
• Knowledge of IT security fundamentals.

Desirable Skills:

• Familiarity with networking technologies, including TCP/IP and routing protocols.
• Experience supporting and administrating Office 365 global environment.
• Exposure to automation (PowerShell).
• Familiarity with cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, Office 365.
• Knowledge of Cisco router/switch management, internet technologies, MS IIS, and firewall technologies.
• Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and storage technologies.
• Understanding of IT security technologies.
