Job description

Heard of us?

We’re a nimble and ambitious financial services specialist. Backing people to fulfil life’s hopes and dreams, delivering the most compelling customer experience across Banking and Motor Finance.

As IRB Application Lead you will lead the IRB application submission across the various Modules, ensuring high quality documentation that meets regulatory requirements.

The role-holder will provide internal subject matter expertise, technical and regulatory insight to the Programme Director and ensure that material issues are escalated to SteerCo and other relevant committees. The role-holder will need to engage and influence senior management to achieve the desired outcomes.

A key consideration for the role will be to deliver compliance within agreed timelines while appreciating the need for pragmatism.

As this role is aligned to the IRB programme, it is a fixed-term position, likely to extend to at least 24 months.

Now is your chance…

The role of IRB Application Lead is really important to us.

When the time is right, we would love to welcome you to our office in either Reading, Manchester or Cardiff. In the meantime you will be based remotely. You’ll be made to feel part of your new team by your Line Manager, Director of Model Risk & Innovation, and colleagues through regular contact and virtual interaction.

What would your day look like?

  • Completing all self-assessments, working across the Modelling, Validation, Data, Technology and Business teams
  • Supporting Model adoption to ensure Use Test requirements are met
  • Preparing Programme update packs for senior forums such as ERC, BRC & Board
  • Preparing high quality material for PRA engagement sessions, ensuring tracking and timely follow-up on queries raised by the regulators
  • Designing training packs to build senior management awareness and understanding of the Programme and its impacts
  • Working with external suppliers, responding to challenge and feedback to enhance the application
  • Providing required technical & regulatory insight to the Programme Director and ensure that materials issues are escalated to SteerCo
  • Leading day-to-day engagement with the Programme Director, providing guidance, insight and oversight to ensure key project priorities are being progressed to agreed timelines, escalating material issues to the Programme Sponsor in a timely manner
  • Leading a small core team, managing their performance through 121s and support their ongoing development
  • What do we expect of you?
  • Significant risk management experience across a breadth of areas and a strong grasp of prudential regulatory requirements across core Modelling areas and Pillars (gained through experience in a similar role/area within Financial Services)
  • Excellent understanding of IRB regulatory requirements (CRR/ CRD IV and associated SS, ITS, RTS and Guidelines)
  • Exposure to different types of models and modelling techniques used by financial institutions e.g. IRB, stress testing, ICAAP, IFRS9
  • A good understanding of the stress testing process in financial institutions covering the requirements of different regulatory bodies (e.g. EBA / PRA)
  • Experience providing constructive challenge and oversight to peers, colleagues and senior/executive management
  • Ability to perform reviews of regulatory and other external papers on capital/models-related topics and provide a succinct summary of key messages and impacts for senior audiences
  • Proven decision-making capabilities, understanding the need for escalation where relevant

What can you expect of us?

  • A friendly and flexible culture, synonymous with our proposition to our customers.
  • A growing organisation that defines itself as being nimble, lean and strong.
  • A drive for continuous improvement, which you will be empowered to get behind from day one.
  • A communicative, accessible and approachable ExCo.

And of course, you will be compensated competitively, with a good range of core benefits and bonus potential.
