Responsibilities You Will

We are now looking to expand our investment consultant team and take on an additional consultant to provide specialist advice and expertise. This is an important role offering substantial intellectual and professional stimulation. A key part of the responsibilities entails regular exposure to some of the most complex investment issues in the UK. The Pensions Regulator is the UK regulator of work-based pension schemes. Our principal aim is to prevent problems from developing. We use our powers flexibly, reasonably and appropriately, with the aim of putting things right and keeping schemes on the right track for the long term.
  • advise colleagues on DB schemes’ investment strategies, in the context of the their sponsor covenant and funding strategy.
  • advise on the investment strategy of DC Master Trusts
  • provide specialist investment input to the regulator’s publications e.g. DB and DC Codes of Practice, regulatory guidance, and the Trustee Toolkit.
  • contribute to the regulation of DC pension schemes, e.g. in the areas of quality standards, value for money and charge capping.
  • help raise the profile of the regulator amongst the UK pension scheme investment community.
Essential skills
  • Experience of working with workplace pension funds is essential, for example in-house, as an investment consultant, or as an investment or fiduciary manager.
  • In-depth knowledge of the UK workplace pension fund investment environment (DB and DC) including: Governance, objective-setting, strategy-setting, economics, markets, asset classes, LDI, CDI, other emerging approaches, ESG, climate change, investment managers including fiduciary managers, performance measurement, operational investment infrastructure, costs and charges, and the relevant legal and regulatory frameworks
  • Good understanding of UK DC pension scheme investment including Master Trusts along with value for money, costs and charges, performance management and governance requirements
  • Good understanding of climate change as it relates to the investment requirements of both UK DB and UK DC Pension Plans.
  • Ability to work well with non-investment colleagues, e.g. case managers, actuaries, covenant advisers, lawyers and policy experts
  • Broad familiarity with the legislative and regulatory environment for UK workplace pension investment
