Job OverviewWe are currently seeking applications for the Internal Associate Ambulance Practitioner (iAAP) Apprenticeship programme for 2024. The Apprenticeship will be commencing from Janurary 2024. Course dates will be advised by the end of October 2023.Course placements will be allocated 2-3 places per dispatch desk.Successful applicants will study the Apprentice Associate Ambulance Practitioner programme in partnership with the Crawley College Group and Clinical Education.The apprenticeship will require significant commitment to learning and completion of work outside of the taught elements of the course and undertaken in your own time. The apprenticeship does not constitute an automatic promotion and a new contract of employment will only be issued upon successfully completing and passing your End Point Assessment as set by Crawley College. The MINIMUM time to complete the course and pass the End point assessment is 53 weeks plus 3 months, learners will pass this point at different dates and therefore uplift in pay will only be given on receipt of a copy of your Future Quals certificate.Completion of this course, the qualification gained will enable you to be eligible to apply and move onto the level 6 Paramedic programme provided in partnership with Cumbria, subject to meeting their assessment criteria. This programme gives a full BSC in Paramedic Science and this reduces down the time needed from 3 to 2 years as the AAP programme is recognised to cover the learning need in external degree programmes gained in year 1.SECAmb will support all travelling and accommodation costs incurred as per eligibility.If you meet the essential and desirable requirements and are able to commit to the apprenticeship, we welcome your application.Main duties of the jobWe welcome applications to the iAAP programme, Please apply for the Dispatch Desk you wish to work in. You can apply for multiple Locations, however the position is for advertised DD and any transfer will only be considered after qualifying as AAP, subject to normal transfer procedure. This is to support quality learning experience and operational needs.To be eligible to apply you will need the following at the close of advert date;
  • English and Maths GCSE/ functional Skills Level 2 . You will need to be able to provide certificates for these qualifications at the assessment centre.
  • Candidates without this qualification will be assessed on the day and the supported by Crawley College to obtain them*.
  • EPA ( End Point Assessment) for ECSW Course
  • You will need to complete and attend the college in your own time.
  • Depending on your current level you will join a learning programme to achieve English and or Maths before the AAP programme.
  • Failure to obtain these will restrict you from completing the programme and applying for promotion.
  • 12 months on road clinical experience responding to 999 patientsto have been completed by date advert closes.
  • You will need to remain on your ECSW contract until you have passed the apprenticeship end point assessment.
  • You will need to be able to attend classroom elements of the programme as fulltime hours. – Part time staff are welcome to apply, however need to attend fulltime hours during face-to-face training.
  • A requirement of your conditional offer, no annual leave can be taken during the classroom-based elements of the course, these dates will be confirmed at conditional offer. Attendance of the course is mandatory.
  • Be able to work from the Dispatch Desk applicable to this vacancy
  • Following feedback from current learners, the programme has changed, including more face-to-face assessments and 30 units instead of the original 42. The Successful applicants will therefore move to an individual rota pattern for 53 weeks on a 5-week pattern as demonstrated below. This will ensure you have access to support every 5 weeks for the year from the college, work with a variety of colleague and time in between taught weeks to undertake consolidation of learning and the academic requirements.
